      IV Therapy Q & A

      What is intravenous (IV) therapy?

IV vitamin therapy is a treatment designed to improve your health and vitality by delivering vitamins straight into your bloodstream. While eating a vitamin-rich diet certainly has benefits for your health, it’s not always possible to get all of the vitamins you need through the foods you eat.

When you eat vitamin-rich foods or take vitamins orally, your body can only absorb about half of them. Many of them get lost along your digestive tract and in your stomach. When you take in vitamins through an IV drip, your body absorbs over 92% of them since they go directly into your blood.

During IV therapy, Dr. Clair or another member of the team at Vibrance Health finds a substantial vein in your arm and places the needle into it. The needle is connected to an IV bag full of a rich solution of the vitamins you need. They nourish your body so you can feel the benefits almost immediately.

When do I need IV therapy?

IV therapy may benefit you if you have a vitamin deficiency or if you’re chronically dehydrated. Research shows that around 75% of people are chronically dehydrated. Since your body needs water to perform nearly all of its functions, chronic dehydration can cause difficult symptoms like:

        • Constipation
        • Fatigue
        • Headaches
        • Muscle weakness

Vitamin deficiencies present similar symptoms. You might have a long- or short-term vitamin deficiency if you frequently notice these symptoms:

        • Fatigue
        • Dizziness
        • Numbness in your hands and feet
        • Muscle weakness
        • Unexplained weight loss
        • Forgetfulness or confusion

Vitamin deficiencies can occur if you don’t get enough vitamins through your diet or if your body has trouble absorbing them. Conditions like diabetes, thyroid disease, and chronic kidney disease can put you at higher-than-average risk for developing a vitamin deficiency.
